  Safety Update
Fume Extractor Features Large Capture Zone
Miller Electric Mfg. LLC has introduced ZoneFlow technology to its SWX-ZF weld fume extractor, featuring a capture zone that’s more than three times larger than traditional systems, according to company officials. With a capture distance stretching to 5 ft. deep and 4 ft. wide versus the tradi- tional 12 to 13 in., operators no longer must constantly adjust the arm to be close to the source, or not adjust it at all and be exposed to fumes. Thus, operators can con-
tinue welding.
ZoneFlow technology moves clean
air out of the arm at approximately a 90-deg. angle, creating a large neg- ative-pressure zone that extends cap- ture distance and funnels weld-fume particulate toward the center of the arm to be captured. Previously only available on the company’s FiltAir Capture 5 fume-extraction system, ZoneFlow has been expanded to the FiltAir SWX-ZF wall- or column-mounted system, and is available in a dis-
posable cleaning-filter model.

Automated Machine-Door Operation
The Safe Machine Door Actuator (SMDA) line from Servax, available in North America through Dynatect Manufacturing Inc., offers a complete end-to-end solution for automated machine-door operation with a maintenance-free direct-drive motor, compact controller and intelligent operating software. The drive, based on proven technology for pedestrian passages, is fitted with a protective function that triggers an immediate change of direction if an obstacle is encountered. SMDA ensures that the force and
permissible kinetic energy are compliant with EN 12453, and EN 14120 is safely maintained.
With user-friendly SMDTuner operating software, commissioning the protective door is simple and can be accomplished within 15 min. This PC software programs the machine door actuator, starts the actu- ator and saves data for documentation pur- poses. A retrofit kit available for new and existing machines, for all horizontal-door types, and for door openings to 59 in. Dynatect Manufacturing Inc.: www.dynatect.com

Clean Air Cabin Lets Employees ‘Dust Off’
DustOff Gust, a new, enclosed clean- air cabin from Keller USA, enables employ- ees to remove dust at breaks, before clocking out or during messy operations without sending hazardous particles back into the facility. Compact in design and available for connection to a new or existing dust collection system, the cabin is equipped with four sections of shower heads fully controlled by the operator. Compressed air blows at a downward slope to drive dust continuously into the bottom of the cabin for removal by the connected dust collector.
