Miller-Copilot-cobot-welding-systemMiller Electric Mfg. LLC has launched its Copilot collaborative welding system, an entry-level collaborative robot (cobot) with advanced capabilities designed for shops and welders new to robotic welding and looking for ways to meet demand. Built and backed by Miller, the welder-centric design simplifies the handling of quick changeovers for high-mix, low-volume parts. Its ease of use, according to company officials, allows welders of any skill level to take on more work, expand their skill sets and optimize their time while the Copilot continually produces repeatable, high-quality welds.

“Our goal was to create a system that’s focused on automated welding for users who have never programmed robots before—to take their different skill levels and amplify them,” says David Savage, product manager, Miller Welding Automation.

The Copilot reportedly is the only cobot with Miller-developed software, fine-tuning capabilities and the ability to easily set and store parameters, and is powered by the Auto-Continuum 350 welding power source and featuring Accu-Pulse, Versa-Pulse and Regulated Metal Deposition welding processes.

Copilot features include the AccuGuide joystick that simplifies precise gun positioning and adjustment with fingertip control; the IntelliSet weld-settings assistant, intuitive software where welders simply input the material thickness and wire diameter while IntelliSet configures ideal settings for the best results; and a large, weld-ready worktable, measuring 48 by 48 in. and able to hold weight to 1500 lb.
