Toyota Implements SlugKeeper on Sienna Mini Van Hood-Inner Die
October 17, 2025Comments
Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Indiana (TMMI) faced repeated
slug marks on aluminum hood-inner panels on its Sienna Mini Van line, due to
ejector-pin failures. The failures led to slug pulling, visible surface
defects, scrap and downtime.
To overcome the issue, on January 31, 2025, the facility implemented the SlugKeeper slug-retention machine from DTC Products, which machines slug-retention grooves into the die.
Results since implementation:
- Slug Issues reduced to zero incidents.
- Downtime costs dropped from $2400 to $0.
- Scrap costs cut from $100 to $0.
- Quality flow-outs reduced from 12 to 0.
- Total savings: $2500 realized from just one production run of one product.
