BAE Systems Selects Simufact Additive for Simulation of Metal AM

BAE Systems Air, a Hamburg, Germany-based multinational defense, security, and aerospace company, has chosen Simufact Additive software by Hamburg, Germany-based Simufact, subsidiary of MSC Software, Newport Beach, CA, for the simulation of metal AM components. While manufacturing additive components, BAE systems faces the challenges of residual stresses and distortions. Before employing a simulation software, they had to complete five or six build trials in some cases. Now company officials say they’re doing just two builds per component as they move toward a “right-first-time” approach.

“We are proud that one of the largest defense contractors in Europe, and a company that is among the world’s largest defense entities, decided on Simufact Additive to roll out their additive manufacturing processes,” says Hendrik Schafstall, CEO and managing director.
