Weld Camera for Process Monitoring and Analysis
November 19, 2025Comments
At Fabtech 2025 Xiris Automation Inc. showcased its NIR Weld Camera, designed for flux-shielded arc and laser welding and promising crystal-clear images of the arc, melt pool and background, even in dark conditions, to help enable perfect welding with better control over process visibility and analysis. Unlike laser-based camera systems, it uses eye-safe near-infrared (NIR) illumination, eliminating the risks of external lasers while ensuring interference-free operation in robotic welding cells.
With a modular, adaptable design, the camera integrates seamlessly into any welding-automation setup and features advanced machine-vision tools. Users can achieve high-resolution crystal-clear images from the arc to the background via advanced NIR illumination, and customize images with adjustable light intensity to focus on specific features such as the arc, melt pool, seam and background. The ability to adjust contrast between the melt pool and its surrounding background allows for precise geometric analysis, quality measurement and defect detection using enhanced machine-vision and artificial-intelligence tools with Xiris’ WeldStudio Pro software.
