Sheet Metal-Inspection Software Module for Creaform Metrology Suite

Creaform has released the Sheet Metal add-on as part of its recently released Creaform Metrology Suite, designed to tackle challenges of sheet metal inspection in part-production industries. Providing measurements of sheet metal parts with the accuracy and repeatability required for 3D laser scanners, this add-on gives quality-control professionals a higher confidence level in their 3D scan data, while empowering manufacturers to fully trust their inspection reports, according to Creaform officials.

Previously a challenging endeavor, measuring thin sheet metal parts using 3D scanners had been highly dependent on users and resolution settings. However, with this add-on, results are user-independent. The software quickly provides accurate and repeatable information on all sheet metal features, such as edges, holes, slots, rectangles and trimmed edges. And, it provides a flexible, complete and simple measurement method, working in synergy with Creaform’s HandyScan 3D Black-series and handheld MetraScan Black+-series scanners.

With the Sheet Metal add-on, measurement processes are straightforward, requiring no additional hardware accessories and eliminating the need to navigate complex or overwhelming software parameters. And, measurement using  the add-on reportedly is as much as five times faster than CMM processes. A new visualization tool allows users to validate that data acquisition is ready for inspection before proceeding, saving time by removing unnecessary steps.
