WinSet Technologies Corp., East Setauket, NY, has introduced the WS6000 controller, which ships with each new press and also works with all previously shipped presses. The firm manufactures high-velocity electromagnetic presses, designed to generate optimum plate speed, with an adiabatic shear. The result, the firm notes, is ultra-clean sheared edges with minimal burring, and with minimal tool wear—in fact, one customer, General Electric, reports more than 12 million hits without the need to resharpen tooling.line-height:normal'>Among the features of the WS6000 control: the firm can expand the capabilities of the press by adding functionality to the control’s software. The control fits in a 19-in. rack for easy integration, and includes temperature monitoring of the press actuators, used for fan-speed control.
Core markets for the presses, due to their micron-level accuracy, include battery components, connectors and sensors; surgical instruments and other medical devices; and computing equipment including hard-drive components.
