Stamper Earns Energy-Conservation Award for Laser-Welding Cell
October 1, 2010The sheetmetal stamping and welding facility of Ogihara America Corp., Howell, MI, won the 2010 Energy Saving Commercial Project of the Year from DTE Energy and The Engineering Society of Detroit. The award recognizes a company that’s made the most effective contribution to reducing energy by implementing a significant new-technology or new-equipment project.
Ogihara’s award-winning project: implementation of a laser-welding cell to fabricate a two-piece automotive-door assembly, reducing energy consumption by 94 percent compared to the traditional resistance-welding process.
