Protolabs, a Telford, England.-based provider of 3D printed prototype and production parts, has launched a detailed measurement and inspection reporting service, the first part of the company’s range of secondary services offering across Europe. As part of its standard quality-control process, Protolabs undertakes X, Y, Z measurements at the start of the production run as well as at final inspection. The additional measurement and inspection services complement the standard process to meet specific customer requirements. Protolabs plans to launch additional operations, including surface-treatment and assembly, later this year.

“Our customers value our rapid manufacturing services for low-volume parts and prototypes,” says Stephen Dyson, Protolabs’ special operations manager, but they now want the benefit of on-demand manufacturing for production parts, which have higher expectations for sampling, measurement and process documentation.”
