What's New

Setting Records
More than 26,000 attendees poured through the entrance of FABTECH through the first two days. And in addition to all of the new technology on display, attendees are still talking about the huge storm front that hit the area last Sunday, and the impact it made on nearby communities. Some exhibitors and attendees were directly impacted by the storms. As a result, FABTECH and several of its exhibitors, including California-based Sutherland Presses, have started to raise funds for the victims of the storms. Click here to learn more and how you can help donate to this effort. Funds collected will go to the American Red Cross to help victims of the storms.

Today's Videos

Balluff

Balluff representatives will be at the booth to demonstrate its die-protection, quick-die-change, traceability (Die ID), and IO-Link technology. Highlighted are its new Smart Light stack light machine-status indicators. Connect the Smart Light to virtually any industrial network via the open and universal standard IO-Link, and eliminate the need for a remote I/O box simply to control an indicator light. Also on display: a welding demo featuring new highly durable cables and stainless-steel flatpack sensors and bunkering solutions.

Wintriss Wintriss will display its ShopFloorConnect asset-utilization software, able to collect data from stamping presses, press brakes, laser-cutting machines and other fabricating equipment. The software displays real-time machine-status information on a PC or mobile device—no need to install any special software. It automatically delivers reports showing downtime analysis and OEE, and provides the vital real-time data missing from many ERP and MES systems. It is scalable and flexible, and comes factory-configured to communicate directly over your LAN with the ShopFloorConnect Machine Interface (SMI).

Komatsu

Visit the Komatsu booth in FABTECH's METALFORM technology area to watch servo-press technology in action. Learn how new die cushions are able take advantage of the controlled slide velocity of a servo and synchronize timing between slide position and cushion tonnage/stroke. Digital technology replaces guesswork for cushion setting. On the fabricating front, Komatsu displays its Twister cutting machine and its Quick Gas option. Quickly changeover from cutting 1/8- to 1-in. steel with fine plasma to oxyfuel cutting 2-in. plate with a mere 30-sec. nozzle change. Dallas Industries

Dallas will display its Profile Select feed control, which provides automatic cam window utilization and selectable strip motion profiles—sinusoidal, trapezoidal, and maximum speed profile. Automatic speed compensation allows for on-the-fly ramping of press speed with matching increase of feed rate. An automatic line speed signal synchronizes the speed of the straightener, reel or cradle for better control of loop supply. And, a time-based profile system has been developed for servo- and hydraulic-press applications. Also displayed: a new generation of zig-zag feeders with high-speed lateral travel for circle-blanking applications.

Conference Updates

Don't stop learning—attend PMA Stamping Track sessions today, the last day of FABTECH, to bone up on deep-drawing technology. Presentations get underway at 8:00, when a team from Delta Computer Systems and Multipress discuss proportional pressure controls. Included is a primer on cures for a variety of problems found during deep drawing, and the benefits of pressure-pad and pressure-sleeve control.

Following is a case-study presentation by Jon Schmidt, Neff Press, and John Macrander, Baldwin Filters, on Baldwin's new deep-draw filter canmaking line. The line has exceeded expectations regarding productivity while meeting targets for uptime, quick-die-change time and ease of use.
