Metal-Fab Growth Worldwide, Study Finds

Globally, the metal-fabrication market, estimated at $16.35 billion in 2015, is expected to total $21.38 billion by 2024, according to a study by Transparency Market Research.

Currently, welding accounts for the largest share of the market, at 14 percent, but machining services are expected to grow at a 4.1-percent compounded annual clip through 2024. As for end-use markets, construction dominates and will continue to, but, according to the study, manufacturing is expected to expand through 2024 at a higher rate than any other market.

And, while the Asia Pacific region leads for metal fabrication, North America is expected to grow at a 4.8-percent annual rate during the forecast period. Also, "the rising demand for iron and steel by European and American construction and automobile industries has led to the rising significance of metal fabricators across these regions," states the study's authors.

Picking Up What
Vacuum Cups Cannot

Transporter®LP magnetic end-of-arm tooling is designed to transfer metal blanks, stampings and parts in automated and robotic applications. Engineered with powerful Rare Earth magnets, they will hold parts during power loss, minimize part shifting, provide more options for picking up perforated or odd parts, and reduce shop air costs significantly compared to vacuum cups. www.magnetics.com

> South Stays Strong for Automotive
"There's been some good news for the automotive sector in the Southern United States," reports Engineering.com. "Three automotive manufacturers have announced expansions to facilities in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia with a total investment amounting to (more than) $100 million."

That includes plans from Honda of South Carolina Mfg., Inc. (HSC), which recently announced a $45 million investment in a 115,000-sq.-ft. expansion of its SC plant that is expected to create 250 jobs. The plant makes Pioneer side-by-side vehicles, including the 500-, 700- and 1000-series models. Included in the expansion: paint, weld, final-assembly and material service areas.
