Straightline Expands Steel-Buying
Monday, September 08, 2003
Straightline Source, the online steel-distribution division of U.S. Steel, has added new services to its website, www.straightline.com
StraightEdge, a suite of online contract and inventory-management tools available on the site, now provides more detailed information to improve inventory management. The enhancement allows users to view in real time their steel supply at the individual part level including work-in-process material, on-hand material and material scheduled to ship.
The site’s StraightQuote quoting and ordering service now has an improved interface that provides more delivery options. Included is a “buy steel” calendar that provides delivery-date options over a 90-day period.
The site also debuts SteelOutlet, designed to promote excess prime product as it becomes available. This feature allows customers to scan coil or sheet offerings in various sizes and dimensions at a preset price.
Other improvements include simplified site navigation.
