Laser Institute and OSHA Renew Alliance

The Laser Institute of America (LIA) has renewed its alliance with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to continue providing its members with information to help prevent exposure to laser-beam and non-beam hazards in industrial and medical workplaces. OSHA and LIA share information on laser regulations and standards, and the alliance has recently produced the Laser Safety Information Bulletin. LIA also recently released the new ANSI Z136.1 document, Safe Use of Lasers—order it at

Stamper Named One of America’s Safest Companies

Occupational Hazards magazine has named E.J. Ajax and Sons, Fridley, MN, to its list of America’s Safest Companies for 2007. Eleven companies made the list. The magazine described the 50-employee metal-stamping company as having “no lost-time incidents in 17 years and no OSHA recordables in 4 years, which means its incident rate is zero in an industry where the average is 8.2.”

Beckwood to Supply a Deep-Draw Press to OCC

Orange County Choppers (OCC) will soon install, at its new production facility scheduled to open in February 2008 in Newburgh, NY, a new hydraulic deep-draw press supplied by Beckwood Press Co., St. Louis, MO. The press will be used to form motorcycle tanks, fenders and other parts currently outsourced by OCC. Paul Teutul, Sr., founder of OCC, selected Beckwood to provide the latest in hydraulic press technology, integrated with components from suppliers including Rockwell Automation and Parker Hannifin. The four-post press will be designed specifically to deliver flexibility and precision through a four-axis active leveling system for parallelism control during off-center loading. It also will be equipped with a variable-frequency drive to optimize energy efficiency, and a dynamic-bed cushion to provide control through four travel zones. For more information, log on to
