Six-Figure Registration for IMTS

Total registration for the recently completed International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) topped 100,000, a record-setting 21.6-percent increase over IMTS 2010 registration. The energy level throughout the show (Sept. 10-15) was at an all-time high, as evidenced by the constant traffic at the booth shared by the Precision Metalforming Association and its publications MetalForming magazine and Fabricating Product News.

Says Peter Eelman, IMTS vice president—exhibitions and communications: “We are entering a period of sustained growth that will fuel economic prosperity and job creation.”

Stories of significant equipment orders being booked throughout the show were in abundance. For example, machine-tool manufacturer MAG booked a $36 million order from on customer for eight 5-spindle profilers to increase its titanium-machining capacity.

Ohio Pickling Facility Adds Top/Bottom Coil-Inspection System

The Samuel Steel Pickling Co. facility in Twinsburg, OH, has installed an ISRA Vision Parsytec inspection system to perform 100-percent top and bottom inspection over the complete surface of each coil. The unit identifies and classifies surface defects and generates surface-inspection reports; www.parsytec.de/.

Additionally, the facility also recently acquired an inline Butech Bliss leveler, designed to remove flat-coiled shape defects such as coil set, crossbow, edge wave and center buckle.
