Metalformer Gets to Introduce President Bush

John Barnes, chairman of Small Parts, Inc., recently had the opportunity to greet and introduce the President of the United States, George W. Bush, at the South Bend, IN airport on September 5, 2002. Mr. Barnes has long been active in government affairs, and has been a director of the United States Chamber of Commerce since 2000 and was elected Regional Vice Chairman in 2002. He currently serves as Chairman of the Education, Employment, and Training Committee of the US Chamber.

AWS Conference to Cover Auto Al Welding

Detroit will host Welding Aluminum for the Automotive Industry, an American Welding Society (AWS) conference slated for December 3-4. The transition from steel to aluminum in auto manufacturing presents many challenges and entails significant changes in current welding processes, note AWS officials in scheduling the conference. Attendees will learn about CO
2 and YAG lasers, magnetic-force welding, friction stir welding, hybrid welding and electronic-beam welding. Also covered will be aluminum basics, cleaning aspects, blanking and nondestructive testing.
