AWS Conference to Cover Auto Al Welding

Detroit will host Welding Aluminum for the Automotive Industry, an American Welding Society (AWS) conference slated for December 3-4. The transition from steel to aluminum in auto manufacturing presents many challenges and entails significant changes in current welding processes, note AWS officials in scheduling the conference. Attendees will learn about CO
2 and YAG lasers, magnetic-force welding, friction stir welding, hybrid welding and electronic-beam welding. Also covered will be aluminum basics, cleaning aspects, blanking and nondestructive testing.

Custom Steel Processing Orders Slitting Line

Custom Steel Processing, Inc., in preparing to open its new coil-processing center in Madison, IL, has ordered a high production single-loop slitting line from Braner USA, Inc., Schiller Park, IL.
The line can process coil weighing to 60,000 lb. and to 60 in. wide, at speeds to 1000 ft./min. The line includes quick-change arbor slitter heads, entry and exit coil cars, exit guillotine shears and Braner’s Speed-Load Filler, which can produce 20- and 24-in.-ID slit coils with a changeover time of less than 2 min. Startup is scheduled for this fall.
