PHD Acquires Rankin Corp. to Expand into Robotics

Pneumatic and hydraulic actuator manufacturer PHD, Inc., Ft. ne, IN, has acquired Rankin Corp., Edgemont, PA, the North American master distributor for Yamaha Robotics. PHD manufactures clamps, cylinders, powered slides, rotary actuators and other automation components. Indy to Host October Robotic-Safety Conference

From October 6-9, in Indianapolis, IN, a group of safety experts and robotic-manufacturing specialists will provide presentations and workshops addressing the latest updates on robot- and machine-safety techniques and technology. Centered around the theme, “What’s Next in Robot Safety,” the conference’s session titles include Updating Safety Standards, Selecting Safeguards, Introduction to Safety Controls, and Next Generation Robots. Grainger Expands Scholarship Program

Now in its third year, the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow technical-education scholarship program offered by W.W. Grainger, Inc., Chicago, IL, developed in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, has been expanded from its original list of nine community colleges to include 35 colleges across the United States. The program provides funding for students at select community colleges to help them complete their second year of a technical-career program. “The economic health of America depends on the availability of qualified, skilled workers,” says Grainger president and CEO James T. Ryan. Upon completion of their program of study, each scholarship winner receives a tool kit to help them begin their professional career.
