Grainger Expands Scholarship Program

Now in its third year, the Grainger Tools for Tomorrow technical-education scholarship program offered by W.W. Grainger, Inc., Chicago, IL, developed in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, has been expanded from its original list of nine community colleges to include 35 colleges across the United States. The program provides funding for students at select community colleges to help them complete their second year of a technical-career program. “The economic health of America depends on the availability of qualified, skilled workers,” says Grainger president and CEO James T. Ryan. Upon completion of their program of study, each scholarship winner receives a tool kit to help them begin their professional career.

Shape Correction for Boron-Clad Material

Ceradyne Canada, Chicoutimi, Quebec, Canada, a manufacturing division of Ceradyne Inc., Costa Mesa, CA, has installed a precision leveler to accompany a new rolling mill used to process boron-clad material. The leveler, a 3.5 Series machine from B&K, of Formtek-Maine, Clinton, ME, features 17 work rolls--3.5-in. dia.--and a 100-hp drive to provide shape correction to material in thicknesses to 0.330 in. and lengths to 192 in. It also has a special, low passline height of 32 in. to allow the material to move directly from the rolling mill through the leveler and onto conveyors. Other leveler features: manually adjustable upper backups, a power tilt head and power-adjustable backup roll to allow for the correction of edge wave, center buckle, cross bow and coil set. Lincoln Electric Recognized for Export Excellence

Welding- and cutting-equipment manufacturer Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc., Cleveland, OH, received the 2008 Ohio Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Award for its superior performance in exporting and contributions to the Ohio economy.
