New Roof-Stampings Plant on the Way in Kentucky

Automotive aftermarket company Webasto Product North America (WPNA) will invest $14 million in a new stamping plant scheduled to open later this year in Murray, KY, according to a recent article in
Automotive Industries, for production of roof stampings for Ford and GM. WPNA, with a new headquarters and technical center in Fenton, MI, is a subsidiary of Webasto AG, Stockdorf, Germany. This year, WPNA, a leading supplier of open-roof systems, celebrates its 30-yr. anniversary of doing business in North America.
U.S. Steel Imports Highest Since Early 2002

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, U.S. steel imports totaled 2.9 million metric tons (mts) in June 2004, up from 2.3 million mts in May. June tonnage includes 2.3 million mts of finished steel, up 14 percent over May imports. For the first six months of the year, total imports are up 30 percent over last year and finished-steel imports are up 27 percent.
Steelmaker Stelco Inc. Continues to Streamline

Canadian steelmaker Stelco Inc., operating under court protection from bankruptcy, plans to close or sell eight facilities in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, and concentrate on making the types of products it deems as value-added for clients: hot- and cold-rolled steel sheet, as well as steel bar, primarily for the automotive and construction markets. It will phase out production of steel rod, wire and pipe.
