McNichols Co., Tampa, FL, opened its newest service center near Kansas City, KS. The newly constructed 24,000-sq.-ft. facility in suburban Lenexa is the firm’s 18th service center in North America, and includes 12,000 sq. ft. dedicated to fabrication services—plasma-arc cutting, welding and more. Robot Orders Slump for Automotive Tasks,
but Rise for Non-Automotive

While North American robotics orders are off by 23 percent in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, orders in non-automotive sectors increased by 23 percent in units and 16 percent in dollars in the first half of the year, according to the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), Ann Arbor, MI. Robotics orders from automotive manufacturers and their suppliers fell by 43 percent during the first half of the year. Leading the surge in sales to non-automotive manufacturers: the semiconductor/electronics/photonics industry (up 117 percent), metals (up 74 percent) and plastics and rubber (up 71 percent).
