New High-Speed Slitting Line for Steel Processor

Thursday, August 25, 2005

M C Steel, upon its relocation from Elk Grove Village, to Wheeling, IL, decided to upgrade its slitting capabilities, adding a high-speed slitting line from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. The line can process coil to 75 in. wide in thicknesses to 0.250 in. The line includes Red Bud’s Camber Trac system that allows the slitter to move relative to the material, eliminating the potential of losing the trimmed scrap. Also included, Constant Passline Slitting, which, according to Red Bud officials, automatically positions the top and bottom slitter knives so that both are centered relative to the thickness of the material. As a result, the load on the knives is equalized, leading to longer knife life and improved cut quality. Red Bud also announced installation of new blanking lines at Russel Metals, Boucherville, Canada, and Curtis Steel Co., Ltd., Houston, TX.
