QDC System Headed to Bombardier
for Stretch-Forming Presses

Friday, August 22, 2008

Atlas Technologies, Inc., Fenton, MI, has received an order from Bombardier for an innovative die-change system for stretch-forming presses. Slated for delivery in June 2009, the system will allow the firm to change dies as many as eight times per shift, significantly improving its ability to optimize production schedules and avoid having to run large batches and stockpile parts. Plant safety and ergonomics will improve as well, as operators will no longer be required to walk on platforms over the press pit to manually change dies. Atlas Technologies is online at www.atlastechnologies.com.

Minn. Service Center Upgrades Lines
to Handle Thicker, Stronger Steels

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Ratner Steel, Roseville, MN, has ordered a pair of stretcher levelers from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. The units will upgrade two existing processing lines—one will handle steel to 65 KSI and 0.375 in. thick, the other will process steel to 75 KSI and 0.5 in. thick. Stretcher leveling exceeds the yield point in all of the material—top to bottom and side to side—to produce flat material with no trapped internal stresses, says Red Bud, eliminating springback.
