Spring Business Bounces Upward

Manufacturers in the North American spring industry have enjoyed their fourth consecutive quarter of increased business activity, according to the Spring Manufacturers Institute (SMI), Oak Brook, IL. In its second-quarter 2004 Key Business Trends Survey, SMI shows that 78 percent of its reporting companies indicated an increase in business for the quarter ending June 30, 2004. None of the reporting companies noted a business decline over the period. The survey also noted an increase in lead times and work hours, and that the forecast for future quarters is favorable. Dreistern Markets Rollform Tools as “Made in the U.S.A."

Dreistern Inc., Telford, PA, marked August 1, 2004, as the official launch date for its U.S.-made tooling, developed to complement its Professional-series line of rollforming machines. Its tooling capabilities include design, manufacture, heattreatment and tryout. It expects that U.S.-made tools in conjunction with a stock program of machines will reduce delivery times.
Greer Steel Fires-up New Mill

Greer Steel, Dover, OH, has installed and started up a new 22-in. finishing mill, supplied by I
2S. The mill increases the firm’s temper capacity to 3000 tons/month. It produces cold-rolled strip steel as coils or cut-to-length sections.
