Steel Shipments Tick Up as Inventory Levels Dwindle

Nucor Corp. reports that steel orders appeared to have bottomed out in April, as May shipments were up 21 percent over April’s, June’s orders were up 8 percent over May, the trend continued into July, according to a recent article in the Charlotte Business Journal. The uptick, cautions Nucor management, appears to be due only to dwindling inventories at service centers and consuming companies—steel inventories are estimated to be at their lowest level since 1983.

Midwest Stamper Adds 600-Ton Minster to its Stable

Performance Stamping Co., Carpentersville, IL, has acquired a 600-ton, 144-in. Minster Hevi-Stamper large-bed mechanical press, slated for startup in early September. The firm operates out of an 80,000-sq.-ft. facility, with automated press lines featuring high-speed servo feeds and programmable die lubrication systems. Blanking Line with Stretcher Leveler

To meet customer demands for laser-quality low-stress material, Coil Pro, in Gent Zwijnaarde, Belgium, has installed an 84-in.-wide blanking line with a stretcher leveler, from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL. The line, with maximum weight capacity of 80,000 lb., includes a coil stage and load system, uncoiler, peeler breaker, crop shear, dust collector, edge-trim system, stretcher leveler, inkjet-marking system, heavy-gauge grip feed, variable-rake shear, and drop stacker with end-discharge rollouts.
