GE Fanuc to Accept Newall Encoders

GE Fanuc has entered into an agreement with Newall Electronics, Inc., Columbus, OH, whereby Newall will supply encoder technology for Fanuc-based automation, process and machine-tool products. The agreement allows Newall to implement its proprietary absolute-encoder serial interface in Fanuc systems.
Newall encoders use precision inductive technology rather than conventional linear scales that employ optical technology as employed by competing companies. Advantages of the Newall encoders, according to company officials: no bearings, springs or internal moving parts, a totally sealed system, rapid position acquirement and high resistance to thermal drift.

Bosch Rexroth Offers Drive, Control, Hydraulic Courses

The Service Automation unit of Bosch Rexroth Corp. has set dates for drive and control technical training at the company’s facilities in Auburn Hills, MI, and Hoffman Estates, IL, and hydraulics training at its Bethlehem, PA, Dearborn, MI, and Spokane, WA, sites. Training also will be available at Bosch Rexroth locations in Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta, Canada. Training will be conducted in two- to three-day sessions from October through December 2004.
Drive and control courses cover topics such as digital servo drives, AC servo systems, transfer-line control and general automation with other courses covering maintenance and troubleshooting for various hardware configurations. Hydraulics courses cover basic industrial hydraulics, maintenance and repair, pumps and controls, and electronic controls.

Lincoln Electric-Canada Earns MRO-Supplier Award

The Lincoln Electric Co. of Canada, Toronto, Ontario, has received the President’s Award for its role as an MRO (maintenance, repairs and operations) supplier to F&P Mfg., Inc. The award honors suppliers who have achieved a high level of quality and/or delivery performance, and Lincoln Electric is the first MRO supplier to win it. The company was recognized for its consistent supply of high-quality weld wire and its monitoring of F&P weld cells.
