Fisher-Barton Opens Materials-Research Lab

Loaded with state-of-the-art instrumentation for microscopic, chemical and mechanical analysis of metals and other materials, the new 1800-sq.-ft. materials-research laboratory is open for business at the Fisher-Barton Specialty Products division in Watertown, WI. The $2 million lab will support all seven of the company’s independent subsidiaries that manufacture high-value components for the agricultural, outdoor-power, medical-device, solar-power and other industries. Among the laboratory’s capabilities: scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectrometry for high-magnification imaging and elemental and chemical characterization; x-ray fluorescence and diffraction for analyzing complex, unknown bulk samples and identifying the elements and crystallographic structure of samples; and drop-weight impact testing; www.fisher-barton.com.

T.J. Snow on the Move

T.J. Snow Co., a manufacturer of resistance-welding equipment, has moved to a larger building on 12 acres of real estate located next to the Chattanooga, TN, airport. The company’s 65 employees now work in a 52,000-sq.-ft. single-level climate-controlled facility, having previously worked out of three separate buildings. Annual Event on the Horizon

AWMI, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2011, will hold its Annual Conference from September 28 to October 2 at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The conference, open to all, features three days of education, networking and other events. On the agenda: a keynote presentation from Bob Holt, vice president of sales and marketing for ThyssenKrupp Steel USA; a panel of executives from metal producers, including representatives from SSAB, Outokumpu and Olin Brass; and a panel of manufacturing professionals including Drew Greenblatt, president of Marlin Steel, Kelley Platt, president of Thomas Built Buses, and Richard Robidoux, division chief engineering, United States Mint.
