Robotics Platform Geared Toward Education and Workforce Development

Yaskawa Motoman, Dayton, OH, has developed a STEM Robotics Platform that offers users a selection of pre-engineered robotic systems. The platform is designed to meet the specific requirements of secondary educational programs focused on advanced manufacturing and robotics. Educators can purchase a complete package, or individual components to build a custom training system. Potential end users include community colleges, vocational schools and technical colleges. Connecticut Spring & Stamping launches Apprenticeship Program

Eleven people have enrolled in a new inhouse apprenticeship program launched at Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS), Farmington, CT. The program replaces a state-funded training program the firm had previously used to train tool and die makers and machine operators. Program tracks include CNC production setup, press and fourslide diemaking, and press and fourslide operations. CSS manufactures springs, metal stampings, machined parts and subassemblies for a variety of end-user markets including medical, electronics and aerospace;

Solar Atmospheres Donates Vacuum Furnace

The teaching lab at ASM International, Materials Park, OH, is the proud owner of a new vacuum furnace, donated by Solar Atmospheres, Souderton, PA. The gift, valued at $250,000, commemorates ASM’s 100th anniversary, being celebrated in 2013. The furnace hot zone measures 12 by 12 by 18 in., and reaches 2400 F; load capacity is 250 lb. Students of the teaching lab will use it to perform tests and experiments related to heattreating, brazing and sintering.
