Connecticut Spring & Stamping launches Apprenticeship Program

Eleven people have enrolled in a new inhouse apprenticeship program launched at Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS), Farmington, CT. The program replaces a state-funded training program the firm had previously used to train tool and die makers and machine operators. Program tracks include CNC production setup, press and fourslide diemaking, and press and fourslide operations. CSS manufactures springs, metal stampings, machined parts and subassemblies for a variety of end-user markets including medical, electronics and aerospace; www.ctspring.com/.

Robotics Platform Geared Toward Education and Workforce Development

Yaskawa Motoman, Dayton, OH, has developed a STEM Robotics Platform that offers users a selection of pre-engineered robotic systems. The platform is designed to meet the specific requirements of secondary educational programs focused on advanced manufacturing and robotics. Educators can purchase a complete package, or individual components to build a custom training system. Potential end users include community colleges, vocational schools and technical colleges. Heavy-Duty Servo Feed/Straightener Combo Headed to Canada

The Die-Max Tool & Die facility in Ajax, Ontario, Canada has acquired a new heavy-duty servo feed/straightener combination machine from CHS Automation, Roseville, MI. The feed/straightener is a CHS Model DRFS-5-54, with the ability to feed 0.1-in.-thick stock to 54 in. wide. Features include a seven-roll straightener, power pinch rolls with motorized threading assist and digital LED readouts for roll adjustment. Die-Max also ordered, for its facility in Tullahoma, TN, a CHS control retrofit-upgrade package for an existing 72-in. servo feed.
