Service-Center Shipments Grow
in June Year-Over-Year (YOY)

Data from the Metals Service Center Institute, Rolling Meadows, IL, show an accelerated rate of growth in June for U.S. and Canadian shipments of steel and aluminum, while inventory-to-sales ratios declined. YOY steel shipments from U.S. service centers climbed 30.8 percent in June; first-half 2010 steel shipments were 19.1 percent higher YOY. Inventory of steel at U.S. centers is up 23.5 percent. U.S. service center shipments of aluminum jumped 37.7 percent in June YOY; first-half shipments are up 17.4 percent YOY. Inventory of aluminum is up 15.3 percent. Read the full report at

Penn United Repurposing Costa Rica Facility

Penn United Technologies, Cabot, PA, is realigning its operations in Costa Rica to focus more on production activities such as assembly, rather than on producing precision tooling. Its main facility in Cabot will continue to support design and manufacture of tooling and stamping dies, as well as precision stampings, prototyping, machining, custom automated equipment and reel-to-reel electroplating.
