GE to Open Huge Tech Center Just Outside of Detroit

General Electric’s new Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center, slated to open later this year in Michigan’s Van Buren Township, will house scientists and engineers charged with developing next-generation manufacturing technologies to support GE’s renewable-energy, aircraft-engine and other high-technology products. The center is expected to employ more than 1100 people within the next few years. The state of Michigan is providing more than $60 million in incentives over the next 12 years to support the center, to be housed in a new $100 million, 100,000-sq.-ft. facility.

Dayton Rogers Under New Ownership

Coil Prices on the Rise

The Steel Index, issued by Steel Business Briefing, shows that nearly all coil prices in the United States, northern and southern Europe, and Turkey are higher since last week, with the biggest gains reported in the United States and Turkey. In the United States, the reference price for hot-rolled coil rose $39/short ton, to $443, and the price for cold-rolled rose $18/short ton. Average delivery time for hot rolled is 4.4 weeks.
