Esab Moving Some of its Production

Esab Welding & Cutting Products will cease manufacture of gantry cutting machines, arc equipment and plasma power supplies at its North American headquarters in Florence, SC, and move the work to other factories around the world. The Florence facility will remain the company’s “center of excellence” for plasma-arc cutting, including research and development of plasma processes, production of plasma systems and manufacture of torches and consumables. The Florence facility also will continue to manufacture gas apparatus and consumables; will serve as an aftermarket organization for Esab’s mechanized-cutting-machine technology; and will provide centralized services, including customer service, marketing, accounting, human resources and IT. WardJet, Tallmadge, OH, a manufacturer of waterjet systems for cutting and machining applications, has updated its website to serve as an invaluable tool for users of waterjet-cutting machines. The site, www.wardjet.com, offers a daily blog that presents waterjet-cutting applications, and a Q&A section offering answers to questions about pump and gantry design, comparisons of waterjet cutting to other cutting processes, waterjet software and controls, and other topics. Tax Abatements to the Rescue in Michigan’s
Tool and Die Recovery Zone Program

A recent article on www.theh-p.com (The Herald-Palladium) details how officials in St. Joseph Township, MI, feel about keeping manufacturing jobs in their area. The township’s board voted last week to grant a 10-yr. tax abatement for Liberty Steel Fabricating. The move comes on the heels of tax abatements awarded to Midwest Die Corp. and Quality Mold & Engineering, both of Baroda, awarded by the Baroda Village Council. Liberty Steel performs laser cutting, forming, welding and other fabricating operations, and specializes in tool and die heattreating and weld repair; www.libsteel.com.
