Universal Die & Stampings Earns
SBA Award for Exports

Universal Die & Stampings has been named 2005 Wisconsin Exporter of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The producer of metal stampings via high-speed presses, located in Prairie du Sac, WI, has increased sales 26 percent in the last three years while doubling its global contracts. This is the second honor bestowed upon Universal this year—in March the company was named Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year by a state manufacturing organization.

First in U.S.: Vertical Powder Coating
for Architectural Aluminum

This year, two new vertical powder coating systems designed for coating aluminum extrusions will begin operation in the United States, the first domestic application for this technology. The new operations, according to officials from the Powder Coating Institute, Alexandria, VA, will quicken production and coating time and offer improved quality control. The first vertical line will go online in August at Extruders Texas in Wylie, TX, installed by Trevisan Cometal North America. The second, built by Nordson Corp., becomes operational at Indalex, Gainesville, GA, this fall.

Beckwood Delivers Trim Press
to Appliance Maker

Beckwood Press Co., St. Louis, MO, has delivered a custom trim press for a major appliance manufacturer. The 150-ton-capacity hydraulic press with Beckwood’s new hybrid tie-rod design is used to trim refrigerator doors. It features a 50 by 90-in. bolster, 13-in. stroke, remote power system and thermostatically controlled water-oil cooler. It can reach speeds to 360 in./min on approach, 61 in./min. while pressing and 380 in./min. on return. For more, visit
