North American robotics companies posted gains of 24 percent in new orders in the first quarter of 2007, according to statistics from the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), Ann Arbor, MI. Through March, North American manufacturing firms purchased 4603 robots valued at $274.5 million. Including exports, the numbers jump to 5027 robots valued at $293.9 million. “This is the highest number of robots we’ve seen ordered in a quarter since midway through 2005,” says RIA executive vice president Donald Vincent. “Orders to the automotive sector jumped 45 percent in the first quarter when compared to the prior year.”

Sellers on the site can now post videos demonstrating machine-tool capabilities and features—the videos are loaded through YouTube.com and can be played directly on

In addition to standard photos typically accompanying each listing, the expansion into video offers users the chance to review machines in operation. A new section titled Videos lists all machines by date added, allowing users to view recently added machine videos and increasing accessibility.
MachineTools.com has 100,000 registered users and more than 35,000 machine listings provided by more than 1000 sellers, and the site is viewable in Chinese and Spanish to facilitate international transactions.
