Strip-Steel Processors Form Alliance

An alliance between Cold Metal Products, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, and Samuel, Son & Co. Limited, Ontario, Canada, will result in the idling of the Samuel-Whittar operation in Detroit, MI. Its production assets and equipment will relocate to the Cold Metal plant in Hamilton, Ontario, which then becomes a joint processing plant for both firms. The alliance also gives Samuel-Whittar access to the Cold Metal plants in Ottawa and Youngstown, OH, and Indianapolis, IN.

Sandvik AB to Acquire Valenite

Swedish metalcutting-toolmaker Sandvik AB has agreed to acquire Milacron’s North American metalcutting-tools business, Valenite, Madison Heights, MI. Valenite, with 1300 employees, will remain a separate company within the Sandvik Tooling business area. Valenite sold for $175 million; its 2001 revenues were $200 million, yielding an operating profit of $3 million.
