Tower to Build a New Southern-U.S. Plant

Tower Automotive, Inc., Novi, MI, recently received a pair of new major vehicle programs, one of which will require the firm to build a new facility in the southern United States to accommodate manufacture of body structures for Ford Motor Co. The Ford contract will help fill capacity at several existing Tower plants, in addition to the new plant, scheduled to open in 2007.
GM Downsizing Could Benefit

At least that’s how some at the Canadian Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA) see things. “GM getting out of the parts business could be an opportunity for us,” says Gerry Fedchun, APMA president, who expects that outsourcing more of the parts GM needs would mean “big business” to APMA member companies. GM already purchases $16 billion worth of parts in Canada, according to a report from CanWest News Service posted on

Second Consecutive Good Quarter

The springmaking industry continues to rev up, according to the first-quarter 2005 Spring Manufacturers Institute (SMI, Oak Brook, IL) Key Business Trends survey. This is the second straight quarter where the majority of survey respondents say that business has improved. Only 14 percent indicated a decline in business.
