Genesis Systems to Develop Turnkey Automation for Fabrication of Rear Seat Frames

Rear seat frames for the Lexus SUV will be fabricated using CNC tube-bending equipment, punch presses, projection-nut welding, robotic spot welding, automated material handling and robotic arc welding. Thanks to Genesis Systems Group, Davenport, IA, the complete line will arrive as a turnkey integrated package to the Lexus supplier handed the project, Trim Masters, Inc., Elmira, Canada. Trim Masters is a joint-venture company of Johnson Controls and Araco Corp. of Japan, along with Toyota Tsusho, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp.

The Heitkamp & Thurmann Group, Dusseldorf, Germany, has acquired Presspart Manufacturing Ltd., Blackburn, Lancashire, England, and Presspart Inc., Cary, NC. Presspart manufactures deep-drawn products including aluminum cans, safety-critical automotive parts and metal-pen refill components. Presspart joins the Drawn Components Division of Heitkamp & Thurmann Group, which includes Gemi Aerosol, Marsberg, Germany, and Truelove & Maclean Drawn Components, Waterbury, CT. Willett Builds Muffler-Baffle Die with 281 Punches

Tool designer and builder M.S. Willett, Inc., Cockeysville, MD, has designed and built a six-station progressive die to produce six different automotive muffler baffles, of 1.2-mm-thick Type 304 stainless steel. The die has 281 4-mm punches. The die set, already in service for 6 months, is of aluminum alloy and can run at up to 65 strokes/min.
