Development Work for Wind-Turbine Industry

Kelly Aerospace Thermal Systems LLC, Willoughby, OH, will receive a $350,000 grant from the State of Ohio for further development of de-icing technology targeted for use on wind-turbine blades as well as jet-engine blades. The firm manufactures the Wind Turbine Ice Protection System, an electro-thermal system that can be adapted for use on any wind-turbine design. Its grant is part of a $40.1-million grant package awarded to Ohio companies by the Ohio Third Frontier Commission. Learn more at

Rockford Systems, Inc., Rockford, IL, has introduced a new monthly 2.5-day machine-safeguarding seminar on how to safeguard point-of-operation hazards on all types of metal-fabricating equipment. The seminar covers interpretations of current OSHA and ANSI standards and includes demonstrations of machines under power along with audio-visual presentations. Flow International Corp., headquartered in Kent, WA, plans to spend more than $2.4 million in improvements and equipment to expand its operations in Jeffersonville, IN. The company makes ultrahigh-pressure waterjet-cleaning and abrasive-waterjet-cutting machines. The expansion follows the firm’s recent award of a multimillion-dollar contract from Airbus.
