Q1 a Record Setter
for Stainless Steel Production

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Preliminary statistics from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) reveal that global stainless crude steel production reached 8.4 million metric tons for the first quarter of 2011, an all-time high for a first quarter and an 8.2 percent increase over Q4 2010. Strongest Q1 2011 growth came from The Americas, up 37 percent from Q4 2010 and up 6.9 percent year over year. ISSF credits global market strength to strong end-user demand and to continued replenishment of service-center stock. While ISSF expects some level of de-stocking during 2011, it foresees another year of record production; www.worldstainless.org.
