Ulbrich Gains Materials-Testing Approval

Ulbrich Stainless Steels, North Haven, CT, has been approved by the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program for materials testing in accordance with SAE AS7101. The approval, which covers tests for hardness, tensile strength and others, assures customers that the firm’s stainless steels, nickel alloys and titanium strip products pass the high testing requirements of customers in the aerospace and defense industries. Machine-Tool Sales off 35 Percent

While March U.S. machine-tool consumption climbed 6 points higher compared to February, overall for the quarter sales are off 35.2 prcent compared to the same period in 2001. Data from AMT--The Association For Manufacturing Technology, and from AMTDA (American Machine Tool Distributors' Association) shows that, for the quarter, the hardest hit regions are the Northeast (down 42.2 percent from 2001), Central (down 40.8 percent) and Midwestern (down 38.1 percent). The Southern Region is off only 17.1 percent and the Western Region, while up 21.3 percent in March compared to February, is off 26 percent for the quarter. Data can be found at
