Twenty associations serving manufacturers in Minnesota have joined forces as the Minnesota Manufacturing Coalition. The coalition will enable the associations to speak with one voice on common issues and strive to gain the attention of state and federal policymakers. PMA member and past district director Erick Ajax helped to form the coalition, along with Charles Arnold, executive director of the Minnesota Precision Manufacturing Association (MPMA). The coalition plans to hold bi-monthly meetings. Among its members are the PMA, MPMA, American Machine Tool Distributors Association, Minnesota Association of Metal Finishers, National Association of Manufacturers and National Tooling & Machining Association.
Hayes Lemmerz to Close a Plant

Automotive supplier Hayes Lemmerz Intl. Inc., Northville, MI, announced plans to close its plant in Howell Township, MI, according to an AP report. The plant, slated to close in June, employs 180. It makes aluminum wheels for domestic customers.

TRC Industries, Inc., Wilmerding (Pittsburgh), PA, has purchased a 72-in. coil-slitting line from Braner USA, Inc., Schiller Park, IL. The line includes a quick-change turret head, strobe-lamp surface-inspection setup, a six-high shape-correction roller leveler, non-marking strip-tensioning equipment, PVC film laminator and paper interleaver and a complete slit-coil packaging system for packaging slit coils 1- to 24-in. wide and weighing to 10,000 lb.
