Robot Manufacturer Opens Canadian Subsidiary

German robot manufacturer Kuka Roboter GmbH has formed a wholly owned subsidiary in Canada, Kuka Robotics Canada, Ltd., to provide local sales, service and support to existing customers and work with integrators to provide turnkey systems. The firm also recently announced the formation of a strategic alliance with Flow International Corp., Kent, WA, developer and manufacturer of ultrahigh-pressure waterjet-machining technology. Former Ford Stamping Plant Begins New Life

The former Ford Motor Co. Maumee (OH) stamping plant, resurrected as employee-owned Maumee Authority Stamping Inc., has begun work in its first contract. The plant recently installed two spin-forming production lines in a 10,000-sq.-ft. section of the 800,000-sq.-ft. facility to begin manufacturing catalytic-converter parts that will be assembled in Tennessee and sold as aftermarket parts through Ford’s parts and service network.

New Phygen Facility Slated for Ohio

Phygen Coatings, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, will open a new facility in Springfield, OH, within the next 6-9 months to expand capacity to provide its patented PVD technology for depositing UltraEndurance coatings. The coatings provide abrasive wear resistance to dies, molds and tooling used in metalforming and plastic injection molding. Phygen acquired an existing building in Springfield that it will rehabilitate and remodel to house the new plant, and expects to employ 20 or so employees there within 3 years. The Ohio Department of Development awarded Phygen a job-creation tax credit, and the city of Springfield offered an employment-incentive grant. Learn more at
