Record-Setting Quarter for Robot Sales

North American robotics companies set new records for first-quarter orders and shipments, according to statistics released by the Robotic Industries Association (RIA), Ann Arbor, MI. Through March 2013, North American robotics companies received orders for 5833 robots, a 14.5-percent jump compared to the same period last year and a 10 percent increase over the previous first-quarter record set in 2005. Likewise, first-quarter shipments to North American customers totaled 5736 robots, breaking the previous record for robot shipments, set in 2012, by 24.6 percent. Several end-use markets posted double-digit growth compared to last year, including automotive components. More at www.robotics.org/
New Certification Program for Portable 3D Metrology

The Coordinate Metrology Society, San Diego, CA, has launched the industry’s first Level One Certification for portable 3D metrology. Examinations will be held at the Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) July 22-26, 2013, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. The Level One examination is a proctored online assessment comprising some 200 multiple-choice questions covering theory and practices common to most portable 3D metrology devices.
