New Phygen Facility Slated for Ohio

Phygen Coatings, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, will open a new facility in Springfield, OH, within the next 6-9 months to expand capacity to provide its patented PVD technology for depositing UltraEndurance coatings. The coatings provide abrasive wear resistance to dies, molds and tooling used in metalforming and plastic injection molding. Phygen acquired an existing building in Springfield that it will rehabilitate and remodel to house the new plant, and expects to employ 20 or so employees there within 3 years. The Ohio Department of Development awarded Phygen a job-creation tax credit, and the city of Springfield offered an employment-incentive grant. Learn more at www.phygen.com.


Series of Career-Change Workshops Begins
with a Focus on the U.S. Tool and Die Industry

The Center for Integrated Business Research and Education in the School of Business Administration at Oakland University, Rochester, MI, has introduced a series of informal discussions under the heading, Conversations for a New Michigan Economy. The program is offered two Saturdays each month, and kicks off May 9 with a focus on Competitiveness and Careers for the Tool and Die Manufacturing Industry. Participants can interact with the dean of the School of Business Administration, faculty members and other career professionals to discuss strategies for transitioning to new career opportunities. The agenda: 10:00 a.m.-noon, discuss factors influencing the competitiveness of U.S. tool and die manufacturers; noon-1:30 p.m., lunch (on your own); 1:30-4:00 p.m., workshop to discuss action items addressing the competitiveness of U.S. tool and die manufacturers.
