AP&T Installs 32-in. Hydroform Press
Friday, April 23, 2004
Major Reflector, Northbrook, IL, has improved manufacturing capacity and the quality of its hydroformed parts by replacing an aging 32-in. hydroforming machine with a new hydroforming press from AP&T, Monroe, NC. Reflectors must have optimum surface finish, a requirement met by the AP&T press since it uses a rubber bladder backed by fluid as the upper die half, eliminating any possibility of scratches. The lower die or punch matches the shape of the finished part, minimizing tool costs. Major Reflector cites a production increase of 450 percent compared to its old press, due to the flexibility and stability of its new hydraulic controls, the speed and repeatability of the press and greatly reduced tool-change times, as little as 20 minutes.
