The Price for Japanese Steel to Rise

According to a story last week from the Agence France Presse, Japanese steelmakers expect to raise prices of sheet steel by five to 10 percent in April, due to rising prices—as much as 20 to 30 percent--for iron and coal. The country’s largest steelmaker, Nippon Steel, and other suppliers are negotiating with major customers including carmakers and shipbuilders.

QStrat, Detroit, MI, has completed implementation of its VisiQuote Workstation cost-estimating software to all North American locations of Textron Fastening Systems. It is at work implementing the software at Textron sites in Europe, Asia and South America, and expects to have the software in use at all Textron locations globally by the end of 2004. Rollforming-Equipment Provider Closes UK Operation

Metform Engineering Ltd, Dudley, United Kingdom, a manufacturer of coil-processing equipment, has closed. Metform owners, pointing to the successful performance of a sister company that manufactures the same equipment, Metform International Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, opted not to continue operations in the United Kingdom. The Canadian operation, owing to the effectiveness of electronic communications and economical transportation services, will be able to serve markets formerly served by the UK operation, according to the owners. In fact, Metform International Ltd. recently was awarded a contract from a UK company and also gained contracts for rollforming lines in Canada, Mexico and Columbia. For more, visit
