Quebec Service Center Orders Red Bud Line

Russel Metals of Mississauga, Canada, has ordered a new high-speed cut-to-length blanking line for its facility in Boucherville, Quebec. The line, from Red Bud Industries, Red Bud, IL, will process coil to 0.25 in. thick by 72 in. wide, and will employ a servo-hydraulic grip feed measuring system capable of producing surface-critical blanks with a length tolerance of plus or minus 0.005 in. Speed tops out at 275 ft./min.
Motor City Welcomes Methods Machine Tools

Machine-tool supplier Methods Machine Tools, Inc., Sudbury, MA, has opened a technical center in Wixom, MI, near Detroit. The 36,000-sq.-ft. facility will house a 6000-sq.-ft. showroom for the company’s lines of machining and turning centers, EDM machines and robotics. 2004 a Good Year for Laser Folks

The Laser Systems Product Group (LSPG) of AMT—The Association for Manufacturing Technology reports that 2004 shipments for industrial laser equipment and systems jumped 52 percent versus 2003. The group tracks shipments by 41 reporting companies, which combined logged sales of $457 million within North America, plus another $183 million worth of exports. Shipments spiked in the second half of the year, due in part to the Capital Expensing Allowance, according to LSPG chairman Dave Plourde.
