SSCI Broadens its Horizons

The Steel Service Center Institute, Chicago, IL, is now the Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI). Early in February its board of directors approved a plan to merge with the National Association of Aluminum Distributors (NAAD)--the proposal is under review. NAAD, whose members would automatically become members of MSCI, would become the Aluminum Products Division of MSCI. MSCI currently has 300 service-center members operating from 1000 locations in the United States and Canada, and 80 associate members.

Lincoln Electric Acquires Venezuelan Supplier

Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc., Cleveland, OH, acquired Messer Soldaduras de Venezuela, S.A., the leading manufacturer of welding consumables in Venezuela. Headquartered in Caracas, the company has annual sales in excess of $10 million USD. The acquisition gives Lincoln four manufacturing plants in Latin America--it has two plants in Mexico and one in Brazil.

Die-Matic Joins with Intermex

Die-Matic Corp., Brooklyn Heights, OH, has entered into a joint venture with Intermex Industrial, Chihuahua, Mexico. Die-Matic supplies automotive and commercial stampings. Intermex is a Mexican private company, founded in 1971, with four business divisions: Industrial Park Development, Industrial Buildings for Lease, Design and Construction and Shelter Services. It has helped over 150 multinational companies establish their manufacturing operations in Mexico. The new venture, says Die-Matic, will provide customers in the United States and Mexico with cost-saving opportunities.
