World Steel Association Reports
February Production Stats

World crude-steel production in February for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) ticked higher by 8.8 percent, year over year. Some countries’ producers enjoyed huge gains, particularly the smaller producing nations. For example, year-over-year production climbed by 35.5 percent in Turkey, 25.7 percent in South Korea, and 11.4 percent in Brazil. Output climbed by 9.7 from Chinese producers, 5.7 percent from Japanese producers, and 5.6 percent from U.S. producers. Overall capacity-utilization rate sits at 82 percent, up 2.7 percentage points from February 2010. More at www.worldsteel.org.

Installs New Stretch Leveler

Dalco Metals, Inc., Walworth, WI, has installed a new stretch-leveler cut-to-length line capable of handling panel flat and memory-free 80,000-psi yield-strength sheet products. It features a computer-controlled hydraulic roller-leveler equipped with exchangeable thin-gauge and heavy-gauge leveling cassettes, to eliminate strip cross-bow prior to the stretch-leveling process.
