Coil-Feeding Lines Headed
to New Magna Stamping Plant in Mexico

Magna-based Sonora Forming Technologies, Hermosillo, Mexico, has recently installed a variety of integrated coil-feeding lines from Coe Press Equipment, Sterling Heights, MI, onto Aida Dayton Technologies stamping presses. The plant employs three 42-in.-wide progressive feed lines on Aida NST 400 presses. Feed lines include a servo roll feed, 12-ft. dual-sided threading table, heavy-duty power straightener and 40,000-lb.-capacity traveling coil reel. Speed tops out at 80 ft./min. The plant also installed a 72-in.-wide high-speed blanking line with an Aida PMX 600-ton press for line speeds to 240 ft./min. Learn more at www.cpec.com.


Magna Steyr Will Soon Assemble in North America

European contract assembler Magna Steyr is prowling the United States and Canada in the hopes of soon assembling vehicles here, once it can land a contract with an automaker, according to www.TheCarConnection.com. Its preliminary plans will require customer orders of around 150,000 units. Its Austrian plant assembles for DaimlerChrysler, BMW and GM—volume in 2004 more than doubled, to nearly 226,000 units. The firm’s engineering center in Rochester Hills, MI, handles work for the Big Three and some European and Asian carmakers.
