S&P Predicts Tough Times
for North American Auto Suppliers

The Standard & Poor’s Rating Services has published a report, North American Automotive Suppliers on the Long Road to Prosperity. It says that the overall credit quality of the North American automotive-supplier sector has weakened in the past year. Reasons for the credit-quality slide include vehicle-production cutbacks, weak aftermarket demand and increasing labor and benefits costs. Learn more at

Delphi Expanding in China

Delphi Corp. will expand its manufacturing capability at its plant in Suzhou, China. According to, Delphi will invest $40.5 million in the plant to build two new manufacturing modules for its electronics and safety division. The first module project is slated for completion by third-quarter 2004 and will include the entire production process, from circuit-board assembly to packaging and testing.

Lube Association Forms Alliance with OSHA

The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) has formed an alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to forward ILMA’s Product Stewardship Program and promote worker health and safety. Under the alliance, ILMA and OSHA will develop training and education programs addressing safe and proper lubricant use and will provide ILMA members with information, guidance and access to training resources on working with lubricants in manufacturing environments.
