Buhrke Earns Siemens Supplier Award, Again

Siemens VDO Automotive AG, Regensburg, Germany, a supplier of automotive electronics and mechatronics systems, has recognized metalforming company Buhrke Industries, Arlington Heights, IL, by bestowing upon the company its Performance Award for 2006. Buhrke is one of nine Siemens VDO vendors, out of 4100 suppliers worldwide, to receive the award, and the only North American manufacturer honored. The basis for the 2006 award was Buhrke’s overall vendor rating of 93, second highest of all award recipients, while achieving a 0.8 PPM. Buhrke also received a Performance Award for 2005 from Siemens VDO.

Workforce-Development Program Gets a Shot in the Arm

The Ford Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization, has awarded a $200,000 grant to The Manufacturing Institute/Center for Workforce Success, the research and education arm of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The grant will go toward the NAM Business Champions program, a task force of business leaders committed to helping community colleges prepare more people for high-skill jobs. Business Champions participants reach out to business and community leaders through presentations, briefings and publications to raise awareness and promote innovative policies to improve the workforce-development capacity of community colleges.
